There are few things that sound better than teeing of your day under the Costa Rican sun on a lush, green golf course. Golf has grown in prominence in Costa Rica not only for the beautiful atmosphere, but many of these courses have been designed by world-renowned designers such as Robert Trent Jones II, Ted Robinson, and Arnold Palmer. In Costa Rica, you have the luxury of playing a challenging sport surrounded by tranquil beaches or vast volcanic mountains.
Guanacaste alone is home to a few of the most famous golf courses in the country. If you are looking for Tamarindo golf we have a few options that are just a short drive from town!
Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course is spread over 4,500 acres along the north Pacific coast of Costa Rica, emanating views of the beaches and vast greenery. Designed by Mike Young, the Pinilla golf course is one of the few courses in the world facing the sea and to have “Tif Eagle Turf” on the greens. Many would say that this course is Young’s par 72 masterpiece.
Reserva Conchal’s golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones II to have the feel of adventuring through the jungle. Jones embraced the natural beauty and biodiversity of Costa Rica by incorporating native trees into the course to provide shade and to mark the edges of the fairways. Reserva Conchal’s course and beach club is considered one of the most luxurious of its kind in all of Central America.
Most famously known in the Papagayo Peninsula is the Arnold Palmer Ocean Course. This state of the art design offers panoramic views on 14 holes of monkeys, birds and all sorts of diverse wildlife that is found in the Papagayo. The Palmer Signature Course is a Certified
Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary which means that the safety and preservation of the surrounding environment is of utmost importance, and wildlife is protected throughout the course and incorporated into the design.
Gear is not too easily accessible down here which is why we recommend bringing your own set of clubs. However, you can find a pro-shop at each one of the course mentioned above.
Costa Rica has two very different seasons in a year: dry season and green season.
Dry season extends from December to April when you will find dry conditions and very strong winds heading from East to West.
The best months of the year for golfing are considered May, June, July, August and November. September and October being often subject to heavy rains throughout the day.
May through August and November will ensure a greener course and a flourishing environment around it. These months are beautiful and provide great conditions for golf with lower temperatures and calmer winds.
